Improving the lives of shelter dogs™
Rural shelters for homeless dogs face significant challenges due to economic disparities, limited resources, and a national shortage of veterinary care. These shelters are often mandated by the state but are underfunded which results in poor facilities and staffing.
A lesser-known but critical issue is the growing shortage of veterinary care, which limits access to essential health services necessary for making dogs adoptable. These services include:
As a result, many dogs remain in shelters longer than necessary.
Improving the lives of shelter dogs™.
Gigi’s is a regional dog care nonprofit with a full-spectrum approach to getting homeless dogs from rural communities home faster and healthier. We provide dogs in shelters and rescues access to quality housing, veterinary, behavior, and adoption services; all from our state-of-the-art campus in Columbus, Ohio.
At Gigi’s, our mission is to help homeless dogs in rural shelters find homes faster with access to quality and affordable care at our campus.
All shelter dogs across America deserve access to quality care and loving homes. Our goal is to treat or facilitate the adoption of 2 out of every 5 homeless dogs in rural shelters.
We want to improve the lives of shelter dogs across America. We are piloting our first regional care and adoption model all from our state-of-the-art campus in Columbus, Ohio.
Gigi's Grads are unlike any other shelter dogs. Each available dog has:
Check in during our open adoption hours from 2-7PM on Wednesday - Saturdays.
You'll be escorted to a private room to view meet our dogs.
You can select up to 3 dogs to meet or ask our staff to help match you.
When you fall in love, you can bring your puppy home that day with a care package!
Our Grads have experienced the hardships of life in a rural Ohio shelter and are now eagerly awaiting adoption! What are you waiting for?
We believe that judgment shouldn’t be a part of getting a dog into a happy home. Find the right fit for your life without long applications or interrogation. Because we know every match isn't perfect, we have a 90-day full return policy. And you can return any dog that doesn’t fit your life at any point – a couple of days in a home is better than another day in a shelter!
Our shelter dogs receive nose-to-tail medical care delivered by Gigi’s veterinary team right on our campus, including vaccines, spay/neuter, specialty surgeries, and dental care.
Just like humans, mental health is a critical piece of a dog’s well-being. Before our shelter dogs are ready for adoption, they are evaluated and receive pre-adoption behavior support.
By adopting a Gigi’s Grad, you are helping other shelter dogs in need get vital care and an opportunity to find a new family, just like yours —together we’re improving the lives of shelter dogs ™.
Please reach us at info@gigis.org if you cannot find an answer to your question.

At Gigi’s we prioritize the mental health of all of our dogs. It can cause dogs anxiety and stress when they are frequently removed from their kennel area for just a short time. Please chat with our staff upon arrival to help match you with the perfect pup!
After your visit if you are still uncertain in your search, you are always welcome to come back to meet additional puppies.
Many shelters have what we call a “kennel walk,” where you can view available dogs in their kennels and select which to meet based on your impression. A kennel walk can cause stress and a change in behavior in dogs as their adrenaline and excitement increases. We want you to meet your future pup in a distraction free zone without the stress of other dogs.
